Conclusions 























 

The results of the Seminar -  HemisphericWorkshop  is strengthening the capacities and skills of national staff, regional and hemispheric approach to sustainable rural development (land DRSET) IICA, based on the following achievements:

     a) Updated and expanded the conceptual IICA (DRSET) through discussion and collective understanding of new concepts related to the social management of territories, policies, strategies and investments. There was a conceptual alignment of the core technical staff.

     b) present and disseminate experiences, tools and instruments in DRSET produced in the countries with the participation of the IICA and its counterparts. This alignment also allowed a basic methodological issues and an update on strategic interventions where territorial claims emerge.

     c) built a corporate structure to improve horizontal support internal consistency technique which minimizes the fragmented thoughts and separation issues.

     d) Established a common hemispheric agenda of work focused on three areas:

  i. A plan to implement a support platform or "network of networks", through a hemispheric forum for DRS, which allows for work, for exchanging information and learning experiences validated in some countries with sustainable rural development approach territorial. This forum seeks to build a network of internal knowledge management, built gradually, to share experience and strengthen the tools enabling them to strengthen the technical capabilities of the IICA. The director of the DLTGC expressed support for this initiative at a public event.

 ii. A proposal to coordinate work for capacity building in DRSET, which includes education and training.

iii. A proposal to coordinate work for the systematization of experiences and tools for DRSET.

 

     e) Establish links of complementarity and specificity of inter-thematic activities (Rural Agribusiness, Agriculture Organic Farm) in rural areas dominated by family farms. In the various group discussions and plenary DRS team, discussed proposals for the conceptual and technical specialists hemispheric (agribusiness, organic farming, SAIA, agro and natural resources) to articulate and strengthen their actions in the framework of territorial interventions where country situations so require.

 

     f) At the earliest time it was not possible to validate the technical paper during the event on the new institutional framework for rural development in the current context, related to the Situation and Outlook Report for Agriculture and Rural Life 2009. But the paper was presented by Sergio Sepúlveda-reunion at the workshop organized by Institutional Modernization Unit with consultants who are working on technical documents supporting the report in December 2007.
